If you have heard of the Uintah Basin it is likely you have heard about the potential for Natural Gas, Oil, Oil Shale and Oil Sands in the area. However, the story you usually hear alongside that potential is the environmental concerns.
We attended the energy summit in Vernal Utah to find out what industry and local governments are working on for the future of economic development in the Uintah Basin.
The Uintah County Commission joined us for a round table discussing the challenges for industry and how the county is helping to both enhance economic development and mitigate environmental concerns.
There is no way to know when a disaster is going to strike but it is possible to prepare. In this episode we look at what counties do to prepare for emergencies and find out how responders coordinate so that the resources required to save lives and property get where then need to go. When you are prepared for an emergency there is the benefit that you have a plan in place and can be self sufficient but your forethought has freed up limited resources so that they can be used elsewhere.
A great resource for creating your own emergency plan is http://www.bereadyutah.gov.

Congressman Bishop and his staff have been working for the past 12 months on getting stakeholders together to talk about how to move forward on public land management in Eastern Utah. The goal is to put together solutions that can be taken to the congress to create some finality on land planning in the Eastern part of the state.
