Derek Dowsett is the Producer of the County Seat. Now entering his 11th season of the program, he has received what he considers a "Crash Course" in County Government.

When resource development takes place on Utah’s Public Lands the royalties are shared with the State. Part of the money that comes in from oil and gas development is available to the impacted communities in the form of grants or low interest loans. The funds are controlled by a group call the Community Impact Board. Their job is to award money for projects and make sure that the fund remains a permanent fund for future community development.
