Derek Dowsett is the Producer of the County Seat. Now entering his 11th season of the program, he has received what he considers a "Crash Course" in County Government.

We discuss the challenges of managing the Utah Prairie Dog in Iron County with Laura Romin from Fish and Wildlife, and Chris Keleher from the Utah Department of Natural Resources. The main problem seems to be that the Endangered Species Act that protects the Prairie Dogs doesn’t allow the couple of trouble spots in the county to manage the prairie dogs that have taken over private property such as the Parowan Airport, Cedar City Golf Course, and the Paragonah Cemetery. If the species were recovered, something could be done.
