When was the last time you sat down and thought about your own personal vision for the future of your hometown?
It’s one of those things that is easy to put off or ignore completely. I stated thinking about all of this last week over Thanksgiving. In preparing for this weekend’s program I popped onto the Envision Utah Website and looked through their page. In the middle of the screen was a bright orange button that said PLAY NOW. This linked me to an app

that asked me to rank the following items according to their importance to me:
Energy
Air Quality
Disaster Resilience
Public Lands
Transportation & Communities
Education
Recreation
Jobs & Economy
Agriculture
Housing and Cost of Living
Water
As I looked at the list it occurred to me that I haven’t considered my own thoughts on these issues before, at least not in a well thought out way. At first glance I thought, well these are all important but it was difficult to come up with the list.
I went ahead and put together my best guess because I wanted to proceed to the game. The next section consisted of even more detailed questions and I realized this was an activity that would have to wait until I had more time. I had work to do. I’ll do it later…maybe.
How often does this happen in your own life? – There are important issues to consider such as those above but there are also the issues of our own private lives that often consume our time.
This week on the County Seat we spent some time talking about the Envision Process as a function of planning for the future. Something a lot of you out there are engaged in on a daily basis as elected officials and engaged citizens.
No matter where you rank yourself as a “future planner”, I think you will enjoy this weekend’s program as we discuss the process of creating vision for the future of our communities and how all of us can become involved.
