Segment 1: County Road Management

This week on The County Seat, we discuss management of county roads with representatives from Tooele County, but first, we take a look at State Highway 14 near Cedar City which was closed off due to a landslide during the winter. The closure of this road has had a big impact on the counties that are connected by it, and they're very glad to have it reopened.

Segment 2: County Road Management Round Table Pt. 1

In our round table discussion, Chad and representatives from Tooele County talk about how industrial trucks that drive on a county road are quickly wearing out that road. Who should pay for the maintenance of that road, the county or industry? Industry officials say they already pay a high fuel tax surcharge to help subsidize the repair of roads, but the State keeps most of that money and the county sees very little.

Segment 3: County Road Management Round Table Pt. 2

In this segment, the discussion continues. The county would like to try a couple of different plans to solve the problem. Commissioner Jerry Hurst outlines some of the county's plans and ideas with input from both sides of the issue.

Segment 4: County Road Management Round Table Pt. 3

In the final segment of this week's show, the panel talks about what they'd like to see and where they can go from here. They also speculate about the problem being solved legislatively in order to get more appropriations for counties in similar situations.
