Season 1 Episodes

Segment 1: Condition of Probation Reimbursement Pt 1

What happens when a judge sentences a state inmate directly to a county jail? These prisoners are known as condition of probation prisoners. The problem for counties that house these inmates is that the 50% that the state legislature is supposed to pay to help house the prisoners is continually under-funded. Some legislators at the state claim that the reimbursement is subject to appropriations and available funding. The counties feel that they are being left to foot the bill that the state should be paying half of.

Segment 2: Condition of Probation Reimbursement Pt 2

Brent Gardner, Utah Association of Counties and Representative Brad Dee discuss legislation that would create a dedicated fund to help fund Condition of Probation Prisoners.

Segment 3: Condition of Probation Reimbursement Pt 3

What are the long-term effects of receiving a dedicated fund from the state to cover the costs that are involved when state prisoners are sentenced directly to a county jail? It becomes an issue of priorities at the state. There are a number of programs that the state legislature needs to make decisions on funding. However, funding jails is important because it keeps inmates incarcerated.

Segment 4: Condition of Probation Reimbursement Pt 4

Chad Booth asks Brent Gardner and Representative Dee, what else is coming up in the 2012 legislative session in Utah? The legislature is looking at what the priorities of the state are and making sure that those priorities are funded.
