Segment 1: Libraries and Community Impact Board S2 EP32 part 1

Uintah County recently built a new library for the community. A large part of the funding for the project came from the Community Impact Board. The Community Impact Board, or CIB, manages a permanent fund that is funded by royalties that come from oil, gas, and coal production on public lands. Communities from across the state can seek grants and low interest loans from the CIB to help finance projects in communities that are impacted by energy development. The CIB has helped fund a number of transportation, water, and building projects throughout the state.

Segment 2: Libraries and Community Impact Board S2 EP32 part 2

Chad Booth Sits down with members of the community impact board, Gordon Walker and Mike McKee, along with Doug Heaton from Kane county to discuss where the community impact board came from and what the board does for rural communities that are impacted by oil and gas development.

Segment 3: Libraries and Community Impact Board S2 EP32 part 3

In this segment of the show our panel discussed the benefits that are brought about by the Community Impact Board. Is there a downside to a board that grants and loans money to community projects in Rural Utah? The one issue that could come up is that a small community may be able to build something that the community can't afford to maintain. However, part of the function of the board is to evaluate each project to make sure that the projects fit the community that is making the request.

Segment 4: Libraries and Community Impact Board S2 EP32 part 4

We summarize this week's program with a discussion about some of the projects that community impact board funding has helped to build. Fire stations and the equipment to fight fires have been built and outfitted with CIB funding. Water and sewer projects are some of the lesser known projects that people enjoy in rural Utah because CIB funds were available. The new county jail in Kane County was also funded by money that came from mineral lease money.
