Segment 1: Utah's Disappearing Ag Land, S2 EP37 part 1

Terry Wood takes us to "the last frontier' of fruit producing land in the state. As the state's population has grown, urban sprawl has consumed much of the prime land for fruit and vegetable production. The problem is agricultural land is often worth much more to the farmer for development than the crops that are produced their. The questions we have to ask now is whether we want to continue growing houses or if we value locally produced fruit and vegetables.

Segment 2: Utah's Disappearing Ag Land, S2 EP37 part 2

Our panel begins their discussion about disappearing agricultural land in the context of food security. Utah has the ability to produce the required protein for the citizens of the state but fruit and vegetable production locally only meets 3% of what citizens would require. As a result we are dependent on other states and countries for that portion of our diet.

Segment 3: Utah's Disappearing Ag Land, S2 EP37 part 3

Governor Gary Herbert assembled a task force to look into the sustainability of agriculture in the state to find out the role that agriculture plays in the state and to find out how it fits into our future. Part of the report looked into solutions to stop the loss of agriculture land to development. The panel discusses some of the programs that are available to help farmers keep farmland in production while still providing a retirement.

Segment 4: Utah's Disappearing Ag Land, S2 EP37 part 4

The panel wraps up their discussion talking about some of the solutions to keeping agricultural land in Utah. Part of the solution is treating farms more like other business and finding ways that we can help farmers in Utah.
