Segment 1: Parks & Recreation, S2 EP41 part 1
The Jordan River has gone from a dumping ground to the backbone of parks and recreation in the Salt Lake Valley over the last 40 years.
The Jordan River Parkway runs approximately 40 miles North to South across Salt Lake County connecting into trail systems in other communities. Proposition 1 a recent bond proposal that will be on the ballot this November, requests $47 million to complete the remaining gaps in the Jordan River Parkway, create a connection into the Bonneville Shoreline Trail, and create additional regional parks for the Salt Lake Valley.

Segment 2: Parks & Recreation, S2 EP41 part 2
The $47 Million Dollar park bond would add an additional $5.73 onto the average property tax bill. The money would go towards completing the Jordan River Parkway, Building a connector into the Bonneville Shoreline Trails System, and creating three regional parks and buying additional land in Magna.
A higher priority should be to develop and keep open neighborhood
parks such as at schools (charter schools in Utah can close their
parks to the public). It is important that the citizens of Salt Lake
County make an informed decision when they vote Nov. 6. The parks
bond proposal raises too many questions and concerns and should be
voted down.

Segment 3: Parks & Recreation, S2 EP41 part 3
If citizens of Salt Lake County are interested in building additional parks, Mayor Carroon suggests that this is the time. Meetings are scheduled around the valley to allow people to find out more about the bond. http://www.slco.org/parkBond/Public_Meetings.html
The idea behind local governments investing in parks and trails is that it improves quality of life and builds stronger communities.

Segment 4: Parks & Recreation, S2 EP41 part 4
An investment in building parks is relatively small for residents of Salt Lake County. The money would go towards some new parks and completing trails. Parks are a function of government because while they don't necessarily "make money" they make life better for our communities.
