Season 1 Episodes

Segment 1: County Land Bills, S2 EP46 part 1

Washington County is the first county in Utah to have a county wide land use plan approved by congress. County land use bills create a plan on the ground for how land will be used in the future. One of the problems it solves is the question of what is wilderness. The land use bill lays out what lands will be protected and what lands will be available for uses such as recreation, conservation, and grazing.

Segment 2: County Land Bills, S2 EP46 part 2

Washington County isn't the only county working on a public lands bill. Emery County has been working on their bill the longest. Creation of The Grand Staircase Escalante Monument was on of the major events that prompted Emery County to begin work on planning for their lands rather than to have a plan decided for them in Washington D.C.

Segment 3: County Land Bills, S2 EP46 part 3

Emery County has a plan put together, but changes in the state law will create another layer that they need to plan for. The county is still moving forward with its bill and work with the state on a plan that will ultimately include local planning with stakeholders on the ground and agreement from the state.

Segment 4: County Land Bills, S2 EP46 part 4

The Emery County Land Use Bill preserves and protects the many different land uses that are taking place on the land. The goal being that creating certainty will make future planning more effective for all parties involved in using resources on public lands.
