Segment 1: Centrally Assessed Taxes Part I

This week we have a very complicated issue, Centrally Assessed Property Taxes. Now a lot of you at home have no idea what we are talking about but it’s very important to you as a taxpayer, to your county government, and to the many services that you count on within the county. Centrally Assessed taxes are an issue because they are companies and organizations whose assets lie beyond the borders of just one county, and finding a way to value, tax, and distribute that money is fairly difficult. Here with a story on how it all works is Terry Wood.

Segment 2: Centrally Assessed Taxes Part II

Centrally assessed taxes are complex documents and as you go through the process of establishing them there are lots of questions and lots of areas that can be challenged. The appeal process is complex as well and it has effects on the counties besides the disputed amount of what they need to pay. Here continuing that story is Terry Wood.

By now you should have a fairly good understanding of what it is and how it works and some of its problems. For the balance of the show we are going to turn our attention to looking for some possible solutions.  To help us with that we have our two guests today, Larry Walters, who is a professor at the  George Romney Institute of public management at Brigham Young University. Thank you for joining us. And Mark Altom who is the Davis County Treasurer and they will be joining us for a discussion on where we might go from here to solve the problem.
