Segment 1: County Search and Rescue

There are 54 million acres in the state of Utah. Most of that is open land; Forests, BLM land, state lands, back-country lands. What happens when you get in trouble out there; your car stalls, you get injured, you are trapped, your plane goes down? Who is it that comes to get you, well it happens to be the county search and rescue departments. They are a valuable tool to the county sheriffs and the people that they rescue. Here with the story is Susan Wood.

Segment 2: Partisan vs Non-partisan

n America we basically run under a two party system. The major parties are the Republican Party, and the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party believes in a democracy, a strong centralized government. The Republican Party believes in a republic of 50 states, a weaker federal government, with more rights to the states. So, those two different points of view make sense at a national level, and a state level but do they really have an impact at the local level? At the county level, people are talking about things like property taxes, police, fire, search and rescue and things of that nature. You'd be surprised at the differing points of view. Here with the story is Malia Bascom.

Segment 3: Roundtable Partisan vs Non-partisan Pt. 1

Chad Booth hosts a discussion on partisan versus non-partisan. Mark Altom who is the Treasurer from Davis County, and Jim Winder who is the Sheriff of Salt Lake County discuss the question of why partisan politics exists in county government, and whether a nonpartisan platform may or may not work for counties.
