Segment 1: Land Swaps

Susan Wood takes a look at how government entities make land swap. If you look at the state map you'll see little checkerboards of blue land across the state. These areas represent School and Institutional Trust Lands, these are blocks of land that were placed in trust to the state of Utah to help fund public education. In some cases these lands are swapped for other lands that have greater income generating potential. It's a good fit for both parties but the process is a long one.

Segment 2: Prioritizing Road Funding

The orange cone, pretty much the symbol of the State of Utah, or at least a permanent part of our landscape. With so many road projects going on around the state, it makes one wonder, how do you decide which road gets the expansion and the attention that it needs. Well that's a tricky question, not only for us to answer, but for the person that actually has to make those decisions.

Segment 3: Road Funding Across the State Round Table Pt. 1

Our topic today is the State Capacity Fund expenditures; basically it's the funds that are set aside for improving, widening and expanding transportation systems in the state. There are some concerns, that certain areas aren't getting their fair share based on growth and traffic patterns. Joining us for this discussion is Cory Pope, director of Systems Planning and Programing for the Utah Department of Transportation; Jeff Gilbert,Transportation Planner for the Cache Metropolitan Planning Office; Jerry Hurst, Tooele County Commissioner.

Segment 4: Road Funding Across the State Round Table Pt. 2

While many of Utah's road projects are focused on the Wasatch Front, it is important to remember that keeping that infrastructure updated helps areas outside of the Wasatch Front as well. However, it is important for local governments to plan for growth in their county and coordinate with UDOT so that projects can be planned for the future.
