Season 1 Episodes

Segment 1: Flooding in Utah Update

This past spring and summer Utah's Counties had to deal with a lot of water. This caused all sorts of flooding all over the State. Now that the flows have slowed there is work to be done to prevent flooding in the future. What are the counties doing to reinforce, and clean out their river systems? In many of the counties a state of emergency was declared, and now the Federal, State, and County Governments are working out where the funds will come from to mitigate future flooding.

Segment 2: County Planning and Zoning

How does a County Determine where to put all the different pieces on the community. There needs to be a place for people to live, work, grow food, and sell goods. All these uses don't always get along. The people who are in charge of planning and zoning are like the community crystal ball, they have to plan how a community will work not only now but into the future. The challenge for the county is to know what changes are in store for the future as communities grow and change constantly. Problems arise for citizens when they aren't involved in the beginning of the process (General Plan), and results in frustration when they call for changes to be made after the plan is already been made.

Segment 3: County Planning and Zoning: Round Table Pt. 2

Chad discusses the importance of good community planning and some of the problems that occur when people don't meet with the county planning and zoning before purchasing property with guests Mike Hyde, from Duchesne County and Don Sargent, from Summit County. There can be problems with access, utilities, and even the size of the property.

Segment 4: County Planning and Zoning: Round Table Pt. 3

The group wraps up their discussion on planning and zoning. It can be a process but the best results are achieved when everyone works together, rather than trying to bypass the requirements that are set out by the counties.
