Segment 1: State Parks Budget Cuts

Last year the state legislature made drastic cuts to the State Parks budget. As a result they are now looking at possibly having to close or transfer ownership of some of their parks in order to fit into the new budget they've been given. Are these feasible suggestions on how to deal with the shortfall in State Parks? Terry Wood checks in with commissioners in some of the rural areas that would be greatly affected to find out.

Segment 2: State Parks Budget Cuts: Round Table Pt. 1

Chad Booth meets with Jeff Packer, the President of The Friends of Utah State Parks, Mike McCandless,the Economic Development Director for Emery County, Representative Christine Watkins and Senator David Hinkins to discuss the cuts that have been made and how the loss of another $2.8 million dollars from the State Parks budget will have a detrimental effect on ten parks across the state and the ripple effect that will have on the communities near those parks.

One argument to the cuts that have been made is that it was based on a flawed audit of the parks. The panel discusses some of the short falls of the audit and how the recommendations that were
made to the legislature cut too much too fast.

Segment 4: State Parks Budget Cuts: Round Table Pt. 3

Solutions are touched on in the last segment of the discussion. State Parks is trying to keep $2.8 million dollars that was given back to them this year to operate but will not be available next year, unless lawmakers will re-instate it for the 2012 fiscal year. State Parks has asked that the $2.8 million amount be restored to the budget permanently.
