Season 1 Episodes

Segment 1: Assessing and Collecting Levy; Property Tax

It's property tax time again but what are the line items on your property tax assessment. Terry Wood talks about truth in taxation and sheds some light on the matter. Later in the show Chad Booth sits down to talk about the Assessing and Collecting levy with representatives from Davis and Utah County.

Segment 2: Assessing and Collecting Levy; Property Tax: Round Table Pt. 1

Chad Booth sits down with John Petroff, Davis County Commissioner; Kris Poulson, Utah County Assessor; and Mark Altom, Davis County Treasurer to talk about the assessing and collecting levy. The assessing and collecting levy goes to support the county offices that are involved in establishing tax values for properties. One of the issues is that smaller counties don't have enough property to pay for the assessing and collecting services in that county, so there is also a statewide levy that is collected and shared among the counties. The problem is that the swing between a contributing and receiving county can sneak up on counties.

Segment 3: Assessing and Collecting Levy; Property Tax: Round Table Pt. 2

The panel discusses the details of the assessing and collecting levies for both the State and the County. The statewide assessing and collecting levy helps the smaller counties to have the resources to do accurate assessing and collecting.

Segment 4: Assessing and Collecting Levy; Property Tax: Round Table Pt. 3

The panel wraps up the discussion on Assessing and Collecting. The state and the counties are seeking to simplify the system so there will be more efficiencies and cut down on the dramatic shifts between receiving and contributing counties. A solution for smaller counties may involve creating regional assessing offices where several counties can share the resources necessary to assess and collect property taxes. The goal is creating an equitable system.
