Segment 1: County Surveyor

Getting the lay of the land is the most important thing that a pioneer does when he comes across a new Valley. Keeping a record of the land is the job of the County surveyor. From 1855 to present day the County Surveyor’s job hasn’t changed too much, but the tools of the trade have. Susan Wood explores the grid with Utah County Surveyor Gary Ratcliffe to find out how the county surveyors keep track of all of the land within the county.

 

Segment 2: Inmate Insurance

When somebody goes to jail they lose their freedom to move about the cabin as they choose, but they also check their responsibility for health care coverage at the curb. It’s a growing problem that concerns the Utah Sheriffs because they have to pick up the tab while somebody is incarcerated. Even though they have in force insurance and they are paying the premiums. It adds up to a really large sum that taxpayers are paying for.

Chad Booth continues the conversation on inmate health insurance with Reed Richards who is with the Utah Association of sheriffs and Sheriff Jim Winder from Salt Lake County. Who should pay for insurance for the inmates; taxpayers, insurance companies, or the inmates themselves?
