Horseback riders from Nevada and Utah rode through Salt Lake City earlier in the day and continued along I80 into Wyoming.
The ride began in California and will end in Washington D.C.in a 20-day, coast to coast journey to bring attention to the issues facing ranching and agriculture in regard to federal land management policies.
In 2012 Utah signed the Utah transfer of public lands bill. Calling for the federal government to hand over title to the public lands by Dec 2014 in accordance with the State’s enabling act.
Since then a number of Western States have drafted similar legislation.
Ken Ivory addresses some of the problems associated with the large tracts of federally owned and managed lands in the Western States and asks why the difference between the Eastern State which have much less federal land within their boundaries.
