Flaming gorge dam was built in 1956 as part of the Colorado River Storage Projects Act. This act was created to manage the water on the upper Colorado Basin Rivers. In the mid 1990’s US Fish and Wildlife mandated the flows released from the dam accommodate the endangered fish. Currently every spring Flaming Gorge Dam floods the river to create wetlands for endangered fish to spawn. This flood is having big impact on the land owners and users of the green river below the dam. Some farmers are losing acres of land due to the high runoff. Today we tackle the issue on how to protect the farmers and stakeholders on the river, as well as the endangered fish.
