Land issues have been a controversial topic in Utah going all the way back to statehood in 1896. Who controls, or who should control the land in Utah? The federal government actually controls 2/3rds of the land in Utah but this includes military installations, Indian reservations, national parks, national forests, and 23 million acres that is controlled by the Bureau of Land Management.
In recent years there have been movements that have sprung up to reclaim this land for state control. The sagebrush rebellion in the 1980’s and in the last couple of years there has been Take Back Utah, which is coming up soon, so what is take back Utah? Malia Bascom has the story.
