Derek Dowsett is the Producer of the County Seat. Now entering his 11th season of the program, he has received what he considers a "Crash Course" in County Government.

In this episode of The County Seat we learn about the legislative oversight function and how it is different and similar to the other types of oversight found in different branches of government. We explore a bill that was entered into the legislature this year creating a new joint oversight committee made up of members of the Utah State House and Senate. We also had a discussion about why this bill was so unpopular with Utah’s cities and counties. And we finally look at how oversight from a higher level of government often thwarts successful attempts at a local level to manage local conditions. Finally, Chad shares his thoughts on who the most expert oversight group is.
